#3177 88 YAMAHA EXCITER ELECTRIC START VIBRATION DAMPER INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

1 . Remove RH side panel.

2. Remove exhaust pipe assembly.

3. Remove recoil starter and the water pump pulley.

4. Remove oil tank mounting bolts, but leave oil lines on. Move the oil tank ahead to clear the motor mount.

5. Remove the right front motor mount bracket and electric starter.

6. Remove the bolts holding the water pump and the flywheel cover and move the flywheel cover out and away from the flywheel. (Shim the motor up to remove the lower bolts.) It is not necessary to remove any coolant hoses. Avoid damaging the oil injection pump or oil lines.

7. Carefully file off any burrs on the OD. of the entire flywheel and wipe it clean.

8. Slide the inertia ring over the flywheel for a trial fit, it should slip over without any interference and have approximately .025" clearance. If the ring is tight or has excessive clearance it is the wrong one for your application. Please call us for a replacement of the correct size.

9. The blue retaining plate should fit the OD of the hub with .005" freeplay or less. .If it is loose please call us for a replacement.

10. 1988 Exciters came with several different flywheel configurations and it is impossible to tell by the serial# or part# which is which. We have sent you the parts to fit the most common one.

11. If your parts fit correctly, slide one of the smaller O-rings over the flywheel and against the starter ring gear.

12. Place the larger 0-rings in the grooves on each side of the inertia ring and the remaining small 0-ring in the groove on the inside.

13. Spray a light coating of silicone on the 0—rings and slide the inertia ring over the flywheel. It will be a snug fit and may require tapping it on with a soft mallet or hammer and block of wood.

14. Apply a light coating of thread locking adhesive to the ID of the retaining disc and place the retaining disc over the flywheel.

15. Install the flywheel cover, belt and water pump to the crankcase leaving the bolts loose.

16. Replace the inner sheave of the water pump pulley with the one supplied.

17. Apply a light coating of thread locking adhesive to the beck of the pulley and install it on the flywheel hub. It will be centered by the retaining disc. Do not damage the pulley during installation.

18. Lighten all the water pump and flywheel cover bolts. Check belt tension and shim the sheaves as necessary.

19. Reassemble the motor mount, recoil starter, electric starter, oil tank, and exhaust system.

20. Replace the RH side panel.
