3175 YAMAHA PHAZER ELECTRIC START ENGINE TENSIONER

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

This engine tensioner is designed to keep the engine from twisting under power, causing misalignment of the clutch sheaves. By keeping the engine from twisting, the clutches stay aligned, belt life and efficiency are improved.

1 . Remove clutch guard.

2. Align clutches to factory specifications and tighten motor mount bolts.

3. Install hook around inside of LH front motor mount. Clearance is tight so you may have to move the engine slightly to install. Recheck clutch alignment.

4. Turn the jam nuts on each side of the compression bushing washers to align tensioner bracket to the frame in front of the motor mount.

Note: ‘84 uses 2 mounting bolts.

‘85 uses 1 nut and 2 bolts.

‘86 and newer uses 3 nuts.

On 84 models we recommend installing a bolt in the top hole thru the frame. Also on 84-85 models you will have to remove the spark plug holder and put the tool k in the trunk.

5. Tighten the front jam nut until the tensioner hook is snug then tighten approximately 1/2 turn tighter. Tighten the rear jam nut securely. A sleeve inside prevents over tightening. Check that the tensioner hook is snug and readjust as necessary.

6. Install clutch guard.
